Sankhuwasabha District, a part of Kosi Zone, is one of the seventy-five districts of Nepal, a landlocked country of South Asia. The district, with Khandbari as its district headquarters, covers an area of 3,480 km² and has a population (2001) of 159,203. Indigenous ethnics Yakkhas, Rais, Limbus, and other hill castes (e.g.Chhetri, Bahuns) and ethnic groups (e.g.Newars, Sherpas) live in this district.

 Arun Valley

The above scene is of Tumbling Tar of Sankhuwasabha district. It is known as the Arum Valley. It is 457 meters from the sea level. There is an domestic airport. Now one government Airline Nepal Airlines and the two private airlines - Seeta Air Lines and Agni Airlines - have their daily flights from Kathmandu to Tumling Tar and From Tumling to Kathmandu.
In the Tumbling Tar there are a number of hotels and lodges which have good facilities and offer fresh food and drinks. From Tumling Tar you will have to take a taxi to go to Khandbari, which is the district headquarters

Barun Valley is an interesting place for tourists to visit. Baru River is one of the sacred rivers of Nepal and it is not polluted. On January 14 each year a big fare takes place. Pilgrims from different parts of Nepal go to have a bath and ask for Barun god to grace them with a healthy son. Pilgrims sing and dance and have fun on the occasion. Different cultural shows are presented by different castes of the Bhot Khola area. Visitors can also see the Shingsabah dancing here.

Khampalung Cave:- Khempalung is located in the Yafu VDC ward no 5. The cave is long and it is estimated that it takes one hour to cross the cave. The water flows in the cave is attractive. It take two days from Khandbari on foot.

 

 

This area provides opportunity to to see the natural vegetation of the region, mainly the Rhododendrons. There are 25 kinds of Rhododendron which are famous in Nepal. The area is abundant in natural flora and fauna and is must for those who love natur.

INTRO. OF MANAKAMANA TEMPLE 

Manakama temple is one of the most beautiful religious sites in the Arun Valley area(457M) in Sankhuwasabha district of Eastern Nepal. The sacred site, decorated great tall trees and natural vegetations, located on the bank of beautiful Arun River, is only about two kilometers far from Tumlingtar Airport.

The site attracts pilgrims seeking spiritual fulfillment and blessing from powerful Manakanana  Devi. Hindus as well as the Buddhist reach the temple to warship the Manakamana Goddess.

The of Trust and Faith:-

Manakam,ana Devi is  considered  as one of the Sakti Pith. There is a special  worship day in Kartik Sukla Harobodini Ekadashi. The pilgrimage of Tehrathum, Sunsari,  Morang  flock  temple . A big fair takes place on the big lawn on the  side of the river  the  whole night Early in the morning , they have a bath in the Arun River

and worship  in the temple. It is believed that the Devi  fulfils the desire of the pilgrims who worship there.  They sacrifice animals and bring gold and silver as offering to the Manakamana Devi.

How to get there:-

Tumlingtar is the only STOL airstrip  in Sankhuwasabha  district and is connected to Kathmandu and Biratnagar by scheduled flights. From Tumlingtar the road goes to Manakamana. It is a green  Motor able  Road  to Manakamana. So you can hire an taxi to  go there. However, most of the pilgrims would like to there on foot. They  can   reach  the  site  within an hour on foot from Tumlingtar airport.

Other major attraction:- Pilgrims talk to the holy men and women living around the temple. They enjoy sitting under the big trees, listen to the singing  of the birds  and  take photos  of the natural beauty. They enjoy having a bath in the cold fresh water of the  river.Sankhuwasabha district also has some pilgrimage sites.

The Manalapan temple is located in Tumlingtar of Khandbari municipality ward no 13. in the Arun valley on the side of the Arun river. The temple is of historical and religious importance. The temple is attached to a legend goddess Manalapan may fulfill the wills of her devotees. There is a special worship day in Kartik Sukla Harobodini Ekadashi. The pilgrimage of Tehrathum, Sunsari, Morang come to worship in the temple.
